2008 Beijing Olympics Lapbook

Oh what a wonderful way to start the school year. I am new to lapbooks and just discovered how fun and cool they are. http://www.homeschoolshare.com/summer_olympics_2008_lapbook.php
Click above for a wonderful free lapbook for the Beijing Olympics. You can modify it and use only what you want and create other interesting items to add to it as well.
We were curious about the Olympic Torch. We found out that a new one is created each Olympics and we created a copy of the Beijing torch and added it to our lapbook. We also choose 2 women athletes to study and Kayla picked a swimmer and Shae picked a gymnast. We also learned that the color "Red" is the Chinese people's favorite color and that it means "Sun and Holy Fire - a new beginning".

We even looked up their names in Chinese and copied their name character. Now that the Olympics will start this coming weekend we can watch for our favorite athlete, watch all the events that we learned about, and even graph the medals for our team (USA). Here are a few pics of the lapbook. Sorry for some of the pics being blurry as I think I was too close and in a hurry.

Time together

Enjoying our time together! I found Shae and Kayla working on tee pee houses for their littlest pet shop animals.

Time for school ......

When is our school stuff coming? (the kids asked on a daily basis)

It was funny to see the excitement of the girls when their big boxes of curriculum arrived early last week. The boxes were opened and the curious little eyes combed thru their books and supplies. Shae is excited to do math and do more reading and Kayla was very interested in the science book, googles, temperature gauge and pipet.

I as teacher am glad to see more teachlet turorials which goes over everything via the computer in movie form and is student interactive and it backs up what we do first hand in book work.

We "officially" start on August 13th and can't wait as our fist half of the year is already planned with wonderful Field Trips, Theatre Performances, Soccer, Irish dancing, Acting for Kayla, and AWANA's.
Cheers to another great year of schooling.
